Sabrina Lee grew up walking up and down the gangway of Doulos as her father was the appointed shipping agent in Malaysia. It seemed almost inevitable that she would be part of OM Ships as a port volunteer, and then as part of the Short Term Exposure Programme (STEP) and later spend two years of her life on Doulos. What she did not expect was that she would later return to spend another two years on Logos Hope, a sister ship!

OM Ships had always been at the forefront of Sabrina Lee’s exposure to mission.

“As my father was the appointed shipping agent for the Doulos, I grew up walking up and down the gangway of the Doulos when the ship visited the various ports in Malaysia.

“I had the opportunity to be a port volunteer on various ship visits and this experience opened up my horizon to all the awesome things that God is doing. Later I did the Short Term Exposure Programme (STEP) where I sailed from Kuching to Port Klang. This solidified my desire to give two years of my life to serve the Lord on board.

“Growing up in a Christian home and attending Sunday school, youth group and so on did not make it any easier to say that I wanted to serve the Lord in mission. However, I am thankful to my family and church for their continuous love, support and encouragement.

This Johorean served on Doulos from 2004 to 2006, during which God broke, humbled and helped her to regain her trust in Him alone. She served in the pantry, galley, general office and eventually in the purser’s office as technical administrator.

“I thought my two years given to God on Doulos was sufficient. I was done with my small part in mission…or so I thought.

“Lo and behold, God was certainly not done with me yet!

After five years, Sabrina returned for another two-year commitment, this time on the sister ship Logos Hope from 2011 – 2013. In these two years she served in only one department, which was ‘Line-up’ (or now known as ‘advance preparation’).

“I had the tremendous chance to help prepare the port visits of the ship to a few countries. Line-up taught me countless lessons to depend more on God and less on my own abilities. God is the ONE who will bring the ship in to any port and carry out His programme and plan there.

“Would I have exchanged any of these experiences? The answer is a definite NO.

“One of the many lessons that God taught me was that He will not let me handle more than what I can bear. His grace, enablement and strength is more than I need and could ever ask for. God is no man’s debtor…To God be all glory!”

Sabrina is now a manager at…well no surprise…a shipping and logistics company!
