A door opened for the gospel to be shared after OM workers helped clean in a village.
Early this year, Shanti* and her OM team were shocked to see the children living in the small village they were visiting in South Asia.
The children’s nails were long and full of dirt, a harbour for germs. Their hair, too, was long and unkept. It was in such a bad state that it had formed into dreadlocks on many of the children. Shanti and her team had come to share about Jesus, yet perhaps there was something else that they could do.
Shanti decided to collaborate with the community and local church, and together they cut the hair and nails of the children. The team also taught the community about sanitation and good hygiene, and together were able to clear rubbish and tidy the village.
Some community members asked, “Who are you and why are you helping us in this way?” This was the opening Shanti had hoped for. “We are Christians and God cares about you and we do too,” explained Shanti, and she continued to share about what God had done for them.
Over the following weeks, with regular visits and through the relationships built, four people put their faith in Jesus.
Today, a house fellowship gathers weekly for worship, prayer and Bible study in the village. Shanti’s team, along with the local church, is working to build up these new believers in their faith. Shanti is thankful that God used their physical cleaning efforts to bring inner spiritual cleaning.
