An IT student offers his time and skills to assist MediaWorks software developer in the next stage of launching LightNet.
IT student Max (DE) worked alongside MediaWorks software developer Simon, giving a month of his time and investing his analytical skills. Together, Simon and Max focused on finalising a developer documentation for LightNet, which guides ministries in setting up curated digital media libraries.
Max asked key questions and helped test the instructions, meanwhile gaining insight into software development. Simon benefitted from the discussions and having another viewpoint, which helped shape and improve explanations for LightNet users.
The completed developer documentation has already enabled four teams to quickly and easily set up the foundation for their own digital media libraries. Once the structure is in place, it can be adapted to share video, audio, image and documents in the heart language of the communities they serve.
“The vision and strategy of LightNet is that we empower ministries to build their own digital media libraries,” said Simon. "We prefer coming alongside them and guiding them, rather than creating dependency on our team."
By offering LightNet as open-source software, MediaWorks seeks to multiply its impact. As more OM teams and other Christian organisations are equipped with tailor-made media distributions sites, it creates further possibilities in communicating the gospel and strengthening believers.
This is what inspired Max to work on LightNet — “to do something meaningful that can help many people in missions,” he said.
MediaWorks is currently welcoming volunteers to help ministries — who do not have their own software developer — to start building their own digital media libraries using LightNet. Are you interested?
