Has God put mercy for and evangelism of the poorest of the poor on your heart? Then become the new leader of the mercy centre for homeless people, immigrants and refugees in Piraeus (Athens). You will give them showers, food, clothes and most importantly: the gospel of Christ.
Required Skills
The position is for a person who is called to work with homeless, immigrated and refugee people for an indefinite amount of time (a minimum of 3 three years would be desired, since the first year will be needed to learn Greek). If someone feels called to a full-time position rather than part-time, they are most welcome to bring in their own ideas for more activities this ministry can involve, transforming it into a full-time position. This position has a lot of flexibility towards an individual vision an applicant brings with them. This can concerning new trainings or the development of new opportunities, programs and interventions to reach more people, provide more psychological or social support, and so on. This position is suitable for couples as well. If a single person chooses to apply, a male is probably more suitable for this position due to a culturally dependent increased amount of respect of refugees and homeless towards a male leader.
Requirements:
- the willingness to learn modern Greek (very important)
- love for people, especially marginalized groups
- cooperation with the pastor, volunteers and teams of the Greek Evangelical Church of Piraeus, and attendance of this church XXX
- perseverance and discipline while dealing with difficult personalities
- not younger than 25 years old
- cultural sensitivity and understanding for the sub-culture of homeless and refugees/immigrants in a country
- for people of non-EU countries it is a requirement to get a visa for Greece, which they have to apply for
Experience (What to bring with you):
- experience with evangelism should be existent or acquired during application process
- experience preaching/teaching/speaking to people with low intellect is essential or at least the willingness to gain this experience
- experience in supporting people in social services, psychological difficulties, and understanding for their social needs
- any knowledge of modern Greek is helpful
